Cara Matthew

Cara is a twenty-seven year old jazz and blues vocalist. She was born and raised in British Columbia and has recently moved to Toronto, Ontario. While she was growing up and being classically trained, Cara fell in love with the genre of jazz and blues.

Cara has performed at Baker’s Keyboard Lounge in Detroit, Michigan, which is the “longest running jazz club anywhere in the world.” In Toronto, she gigs at venues such as N’awlins with local piano player Robi Botos. Cara has also enjoyed playing with musicians George Koller, Davide DiRenzo, and Guido Basso.

During 2000 and 2001, Cara was the featured performer for a Las Vegas Follies show in Kelowna, British Columbia with a company called the Okanagan Valley Wine Train.

Cara has performed with Juno nominated jazz singer George St. Kitts and has had the pleasure of singing with world renowned Canadian tenor, Michael Burgess.

Throughout her high school years in Kelowna, Cara sang in a number of auditioned jazz choirs, jazz combos and chamber choirs, including the B.C.M.E.A. Honour Choir.

Cara has received various awards and scholarships for her vocal capabilities, such as the Most Outstanding Jazz Vocalist of the Year Award at the B.C. Interior Jazz Festival, the Most Promising Performer at the Kiwanis Music Festival and scholarships including Berkley School of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

With her singing, Cara participates in hospital, breast cancer and not-for-profit fundraisers. She also serenades weddings, anniversaries and funerals. She has been the National Anthem singer for the Canadian National Curling Championships, Canadian National Soccer Championships, Vancouver Giants hockey team (WHL) and even the Stock Car Races at Merrittville Speedway, in the Niagara region of Ontario.

Cara graduated from the University of British Columbia with a Bachelor of Arts degree. She majored in Sociology and English Literature. Skiing, traveling and reading are a few of her hobbies and she has a passion for animals and nature. Cara is currently working on her first album with producer Greg Kavanagh, which is to be released May 17th, 2008.
